Chef Ren Mercer Cooking recipes with Himalayan Salt

Ren Mercer is a well-renowned chef and an experienced teacher for more than 20 years in the cooking industry. He belongs to Toronto, Canada and he loves to improve the quality and flavor of his recipes by adding the Himalayan pink salt instead of the other refined salts. He is using the Himalayan salt in his recipes to develop the delicious taste and he also loves to use the Himalayan salt blocks for a more flavorful cooking experience. Today, we are here to show you the right way how you can cook your favorite meal using the Himalayan salt blocks the way Ren Mercer does.

1. When you have decided that you are going to cook like Ren Mercer using a Himalayan salt block, then the first thing you need is a 1-inch thick Himalayan salt block. If you can find the one that is 1.5 inches or more, then it would be a better choice.
2. Now, either you will be using a gas range or an electric range. If you have the gas range, then you should put your Himalayan salt block on a stove top, do not use the oven, and set the heat to minimum and heat it for approximately 15 minutes. During this time, you might see the moisture accumulating on the edges of the salt block. This is because that salt evaporates water when heated, so you should heat it slowly.
If you have an electric range, then it would work better than the gas range because the salt block will experience less moisture and because of the even heat of electric range. Here, you would have to place a pastry ring on the stovetop or a metal ring can also work fine. Here, you would have to set the heat as low as possible and heat it for about 10 minutes.
3. Now, turn the heat up to medium and wait for 5-10 minutes. After 5-10 minutes, increase the heat to high and wait for another 10-15 minutes in order to achieve the desired level. An infrared meter can help you see the fluctuating temperatures.
4. Now, you should start your cooking experience. It is advised to use the thin slices of meat and don not flip them until the one side is totally cooked. That means you have to wait until one side of the meat or what you are cooking is cooked completely and after that just flip it to the other side using the oven mitts. Because you are cooking on a salt block, so you don’t have to use the salt at all. During the cooking, you will see small cracks developing on your salt block. Don’t worry as they are natural.
5. When you have finished cooking your meal on the salt block, then let it cool down completely to the room temperature. This can take 4 to 5 hours and it might level the room temperature tomorrow, so be patient. When it is cool, now you should rinse it using the warm water. After rinsing it with water, scrub it vigorously from the areas where the food is sticking. At last, rinse it again with water and keep in a dry place.
